Last time, we explored the Life Themes with the Sun in Gateway 3, the Gateway of “Innovating”. Now, we move on into Gateway 27, the Gateway known as “Nourishing”. How do we nourish ourselves? It’s not just a matter of eating nutritious foods. It’s a matter of our environment, how we choose to spend our time, and the company we keep. It’s also the clothes we wear, the things we read and the movies we watch. It’s all the many things we take in that can enrich and deepen our experience in so many ways. Gate 27 is very focused on looking after ourselves, and since it’s in the Tribal Circuitry, it’s also interested in looking after our community.
With that in mind, let’s have a look at the Human Design Life Themes associated with Gateway 27:
The Personal Life Theme: The Unexpected
With the Conscious Sun in Gate 27, we find ourselves in the Personal Life Theme of “The Unexpected”. “The Game Player”. And what’s the game? Life itself! Anything can happen in this life at any time. So, Gateway 28 reminds us to play the game while we can. We have to dance with life, in the good times and the bad. It’s a reminder to be present within all the possibilities. If you’re going to be in a body and be alive, then live to the max. Play this game. Take it on.
Gate 27 – Nourishment – Breaking with the old ways and implementing the new.
Gate 28 – The Game Player – Embracing life’s challenges with courage, tenacity, and celebration.
Gate 41 – Imagination – Living within limited resources opens the door for imagination and possibilities.
Gate 31 – Influence – Interrelating and leading others through expressing your natural influence.
On Unconscious side, we have the Sun in Gate 41, the Gateway of “Imagination”. It’s also known as “Decrease”, because it is in moments of decrease, depletion, or limitation that imagination is at its most powerful. It has the power to lift us out of the depths and help us to envision something new, something inspiring. On the Earth side we have Gate 31, the Gateway of “Influence” or “Leadership”. Gate 31 has the ability to logically express what we’re going to do next, what’s really worth doing, and how we’re going to do it.
So, these four Gateways come together here to rearranging things, to go about things in a different way, while nourishing ourselves, using our imagination, having more fun in life, and being very direct about it all. And what I always say about people with this Life Theme is that they’re the lightning rods. They attract unusual experiences and situations. And wherever they go, they bring that energy with them. They open things up, they innovate, they bring new possibilities to life.

The Fixed Life Theme: Caring
The Sun moves on into the fourth line of Gates 27 and 28, and we enter the Fixed Life Theme of “Caring”. Wherever there’s a fourth line, we move from the arena of “me”, into the arena of “we”. The fourth line always wants to make sure that we’re all in this together, that everyone is on board. So, it makes sense that “nourishment” becomes “caring” here.
Gate 27 – Innovating – Breaking with the old ways and implementing the new.
Gate 28 – The Game Player – Embracing life’s challenges with courage, tenacity, and celebration.
Gate 19 – Approach – Reaching out to find what we need for life to connect us all.
Gate 33 – Retreat – Recharging and assimilating life experiences by withdrawing.
At the same time, the Unconscious Sun has moved into the 19th Gateway, which we call “Approach”. It’s one of the movement Gates. It moves outward to find out what people need. What are people looking for? How do people get to find fulfillment in life?
People feel lost. They feel separated. And we’re looking for unity. We’re looking for reconnection. And Gate 19 is looking at how to guide people toward that connection. So, the whole energy has shifted here a bit. It’s gone from finding ways to nourish ourselves and find the joy and the possibilities in life, and it’s shifted into the shared pursuit of getting everyone pulling together to find unity.
The Interpersonal Life Theme: Alignment
The Sun then moves into the fifth and sixth lines of Gates 27 and 28, and we find ourselves in the Interpersonal Life Theme of “Alignment”. This is where things can come together and people can be made to feel that they’re connected. They can get the sense that they are finally rejoining with whatever it is they felt separated them.
So, people with this particular Life Theme have the ability to draw people together and get them on the same track. They inspire people to feel empowered in their lives again.
Again, we have the Sun in Gate 27 and the Earth in Gate 28 with the fifth and sixth lines. And fifth and sixth lines have the ability to be leaders, mentors, and guides. Again, we have the Sun in Gate 27 and the Earth in Gate 28 with the fifth and sixth lines. And fifth and sixth lines have the ability to be leaders, mentors, and guides. So, when the Sun is Nourishing in Gate 27, and the Earth is the Game Player in Gate 28, and they are in the fifth and sixth lines, they essentially have the potential to become leaders of the dance of life. There’s the potential for a great deal of caring and celebration here.
