Last time, we explored Gateway 47, known as the Gate of “Realization”. Now, the Sun has moved on into Gateway 6. In the traditional I-Ching, this Gateway is known as the Gateway of “Conflict”. But since we’re moving into an Aquarian age, whether we like it or not, I prefer to call it “Conflict Resolution.”
There are multiple different ways of resolving conflicts and sorting out the potential difficulties in life. And one of them begins with getting very clear about our emotions. Those of you familiar with Human Design will know that Gate 6 is in the corner of the Emotions Center which potentially connects into the sacral center through the Channel of 59-6, the Channel of “Greatest Intimacy”, where life force energy from the Sacral Center penetrates right into the emotional body. So, the 6th Gateway is literally the doorkeeper to all of our emotions, which is why we say that people who have this Gateway in their design tend to control the emotional environment around them.
So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at the Human Design Life Themes associated with Gateway 6:
The Personal Life Theme: The Garden of Eden
Now, the Sun is in Gate 6, and we find ourselves in the Life Theme of “The Garden of Eden”. The Garden of Eden is essentially perfection. It’s the ideal environment for supporting the ideal life. Everybody gets along; animals, people, trees, living in perfect harmony.
It’s often the case that people with this particular Life Theme come into this world from a very bright source, a place that’s equivalent to a Garden of Eden where everything’s perfect. And then they land on planet Earth, where things are a bit more complicated, to put it mildly. So, they come into this world with the expectation that everything’s fine. Then, when they’re about four or five years old, they find out that things might not be so great. From there, they run into challenge after challenge as things in this world fail to meet their expectations time and time again.
So, what I always say to people with this Life Theme is, “Stop looking for the garden. You are the garden. Own it. Be in it. Live in this high frequency. Live in this high state of possibility. Stop chasing after things on the outside because you’re never going to be fulfilled by, or satisfied with, what’s on the outside.”
Gate 6 – Conflict Resolution – By monitoring changing emotions, you recognize the needs of any particular moment.
Gate 36 – Crisis Resolution – The potential to feel a sense of crisis before moving into a new experience.
Gate 12 – Standstill – Being cautious and remaining inactive until the moment is right.
Gate 11 – Harmony – As harmony emanates out into the world, small ideas can yield big returns.
Now, we also have the Conscious Earth in Gateway 36 here, which in the traditionally I-Ching is known as “The Darkening of the Light”, meaning the more you look at something, the more obscured it becomes. I call this Gateway “Crisis Resolution”. In the original Greek, the word “krisis” means “the point at which one must make a decision”. So, a crisis exists up until that moment you make a decision. And that’s the whole crux of Gate 36: Can you trust yourself to make a decision and move forward into whatever experience you’re facing? And in this Garden of Eden, can you make the decision to be resolved in yourself that you are the garden and that whatever happens on the outside, you’re here to deal with it one way or another?
We also have the Unconscious Sun in Gateway 12, the Gateway of “Caution”, which reminds us to hang on a minute, wait, have another look before we just rush into a habitual way of dealing with things. And we have the Unconscious Earth in Gateway 11, the Gateway of “Harmony, Peace and Ideas”. So, it’s a very potent life theme. People who are born into this Life Theme carry a lot of potential light with them. It’s just a matter of having the wherewithal to slow down, to recognize that wherever they go, they have the potential of bringing the garden with them.
Notable people with this Life Theme: Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth I, Lauren Bacall
The Fixed Life Theme: Conflict Resolution
The Sun moves into the fourth line, and the fourth line with the 6th Gateway is all about friendship. It wants to get along with people. It wants to influence others to come together and combine their energies in order to achieve great things. Which is why we call this Life Theme the Fixed Life Theme of “Conflict Resolution”.
On the other side, Gate 36 with the fourth line has a rather curious ability to tap into things that are mostly hidden from other people. They have a knack for tuning into whatever it is that’s needed in any particular moment. So, people with this very rare Fixed Fate Life Theme are uniquely equipped to resolve conflict situations.
Gate 6 – Conflict Resolution – By monitoring changing emotions, you recognize the needs of any particular moment.
Gate 36 – Crisis Resolution – The potential to feel a sense of crisis before moving into a new experience.
Gate 15 – Humanity – In all of life’s possible extremes, there is a place and role for everyone.
Gate 10 – Behavior – Finding one’s pace and place throughout the twists and challenges of life.
Now, the Unconscious Sun has moved into Gate 15, the Gateway of “Humility”, and also the Gateway of love of humanity and nature. Ultimately I see Gate 15 as the Gateway of Trust. People are going to trust you with that 15th Gateway, because you have the means to make space and time for everybody.
We also have the Unconscious Earth in the Gateway 10, which is the Gateway of “Behavior” or “Meeting Challenges Head-on”. In the traditional I-Ching it’s known as “Treading on the tail of the tiger”. What do you do if, while you’re out for a stroll, you happen to step on a tiger’s tail? You know that if you run for it, you’re going to get eaten for breakfast. How do you respond when life throws challenges in your path? Can you accept them, engage with them, and face them head-on? That’s what people with this Life Theme are all about. They have the means to engage with and resolve the conflicts which inevitably pop up in life.
The Interpersonal Life Theme: The Earth Plane
Now the Sun goes into the fifth and sixth lines of Gates 6 and 36, and we find ourselves in the Interpersonal Life Theme of “The Earth Plane”. People with this Life Theme are natural diplomats. They have a natural ability to resolve other people’s issues and as such are likely to be in a position where people seek them out to get their consultation.
This Life Theme can be very grounded, very capable, very well ordered in bringing things together. And again, with the Unconscious Sun in Gate 15 (the Gateway of Trust) and the Unconscious Earth in Gate 10 (the Gateway of Dealing with Challenges), people with this Life Theme have the ability to recognize all the potential difficulties that humans can encounter in this life, and somehow know how to deal with them. They know how to calm the waters, how to get people to chill out when it looks like they’re headed for disaster. There’s a cooling energy with this Life Theme that seems to say, “There is no issue here. We can resolve this. We can talk about this. There’s no need to get upset, to freak out, to take up arms.”
Notable people with this Life Theme: Sophia Loren, Stephen King, Maggie Cheung.
That’s the essence of the Life Themes associated with the 6th Gateway. If you want to learn more about Life Themes, you’ll find them all in the Book of Destinies, part of the Human Design Trilogy which is available in all good bookstores and audiobook platforms.
