As the innovator behind SpaceX and Tesla, with ambitions to build a high-speed hyperloop transportation system and underground roadways for electric cars, Elon Musk has been mocked throughout his life for thinking a bit too far outside the box. But nothing has slowed him down in his quest to turn science fiction into reality. And now, he’s solidified himself as one of the most powerful forces in engineering, transportation, and exploration. So, what does a Human Design Chart reading tell us about this remarkable, if sometimes controversial, thought leader?
A Calling to Seek Progress
Born into the Life Theme of Service, with a Single Definition, Manifesting Generator Design, Sacral Authority, and a 3/5 Profile, Elon Musk has found ways to apply his gifts and energy into services and industries that others tend to overlook.
The Life Theme of Service suggests a lifetime of working for the common good as a means to uplift the state of humanity. Hence, there are bound to be misunderstandings about what Musk is prepared to do for people on a personal level, because his aim is always toward moving the collective forward and ensuring that humanity as a whole continues to progress and thrive.
He picked up on his calling to service early on in life, finding it in the pages of Isaac Asimov’s science fiction series, Foundation, which centered around sending colonies to distant planets to help civilization mitigate an unavoidable cataclysm. “The lesson I drew from that,” Musk says, “is you should try to take the set of actions that are likely to prolong civilization, minimize the probability of a dark age and reduce the length of a dark age if there is one.”
A Lifetime of Turbulent Relationships
In his Human Design Chart Reading, we see that Musk has undefined Self, Willpower, and Emotions Centers. This means that personal relationships are always likely to be a trial for him. And we see this in his many public feuds and private lawsuits, as well as his very public divorce, reconciliation, and then second divorce from Talulah Riley. Even his once-close relationship with his father turned sour. So much so that he even went so far as to call his father a “terrible human being.”
All Manifesting Generators are born with energy to burn, and they have to learn quickly who and what merits their energies and attention, and who and what does not. There is a certain protocol for all Manifesting generators in that when their “gut” response tells them to do something, it is important to move incrementally towards whatever drew their response until they arrive at a “moment of truth.” And in that moment, they are either totally certain that they will get involved, or they completely drop whatever drew their gut response in the first place. This is why all Manifesting Generators, and certainly Musk, can appear quixotic to the people who don’t comprehend their nature.
An Unstoppable Mind
This aspect of Musk’s nature goes a long way in explaining why he seems to have so many disparate projects up in the air at once (Space travel, vacuum tube trains, electric cars, the TransPod, etc), and why some of them seem to arrive out of nowhere and instantly become extremely urgent for him. For instance, while stuck in traffic in 2016, he had the idea to build underground motorways to alleviate congestion. The moment he had the idea he tweeted, «I am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging.» And he did. Less than a year later his tunnel project, “The Boring Company” was up and running.
Anyone born with a 3/5 Profile has a life in which many apparent mistakes can lead to a rapid expansion in intelligence, so long as a mistake is taken as a learning opportunity, and not as a personal failure. An exploding rocket or shattered new-model car glass needs to be a temporary setback, a learning experience rather than a prolonged embarrassment or a terminal shutdown. With the right attitude, 3/5’s are automatically on a fast-track lifetime, and as in the case of Elon Musk, they have the potential to take a large portion of humanity along for the ride.
