Last time, we explored the Life Themes with the Sun in Gateway 13, the Gateway of “Listening”. Now, we move on into Gateway 49, the Gateway known as “Revolution”, but which I prefer to call “The Rebel”. Our consciousness on this planet is changing. We’re moving out of reaction. We’re moving beyond revolution, which just goes round and round without substantially changing anything. We’re moving into the experience of being The Rebel.
The Rebel is not a follower. They can recognize what’s unjust, what’s unfair, what doesn’t work properly, and where people are misusing their influences and their power, but The Rebel works on their own behalf. They don’t join groups or become part of the mob, they stand firm in their own clarity.
With that in mind, let’s have a look at the Human Design Life Themes associated with Gateway 49:
The Personal Life Theme: Explanation

- Gate 49 – Revolution – Abolishing the “old” and supporting a “new” which is aligned with certain principles.
- Gate 4 – Mental Solutions – The pursuit of the right solutions and the right timing for them.
- Gate 43 – Insight – Receiving new perceptions and reforming old ways and habits.
- Gate 23 – Assimilation – Peeling away the non-essential to reveal what is substantial.
The Unconscious Sun has gone into Gate 43, the Gateway of “Insight”, which is in the Individual Circuitry, so the insight that comes through is absolutely new and pristine. The Unconscious Earth is in Gate 23 “Assimilation”, which translates these new insights in ways people can appreciate. People who are well versed in Human Design will know that Gates 43 and 23 constitute a Channel which we call “Structuring”. This Channel can be quite powerful in that it brings about a complete revelation of how things can be interpreted and communicated.
So, people with this Life Theme can tune into things that nobody else has access to; insights that reveal completely new ways for us to express and arrange our lives. The question is, how to translate this into something that people can actually realize? It’s important to remember that the message itself is almost as important as the way it’s delivered. Tone of voice, wording, frequency, sound quality—these things make a big difference in whether or not people can digest what’s coming through. There must be a measure of calm in this voice. The person using the voice of the 43-23 Channel has to be relaxed in themself. They’re not pushing some kind of agenda. They’re not up in arms fomenting a rebellion or reaction. They’re firmly The Rebel in that they express themselves clearly and decisively.
Notable people with this Life Theme: James Dean, Carole King, Nick Nolte, Tom Hiddleston, Mary Steenburgen, Sheryl Crow
The Fixed Life Theme: Principles

- Gate 49 – Revolution – Abolishing the “old” and supporting a “new” which is aligned with certain principles.
- Gate 4 – Mental Solutions – The pursuit of the right solutions and the right timing for them.
- Gate 14 – Prosperity – Learning to embody a genuine easy in situations involving property, wealth and affluence.
- Gate 8 – Contribution – Inspiring trust and providing outlets for those who create novel concepts and ideals.
Now, Gate 4 with the fourth line can be a little weird in terms of logic. It can come out with some really strange ideas. And it’s not so much that it thinks outside of the box, it’s more that there is no box at all. It’s not confined to a box. It has a completely different way of accessing thought processes and ideas. So, people with this Life Theme can act in ways that really defy the commonplace, defy the expected. And they can go way overboard on behalf of other people, to make sure they get treated fairly, that ways are found for everyone to be included and given access to essential resources.
The Interpersonal Life Theme: The Rebel

So, The Rebel plays a very precious part in all of our lives. It reminds us that there’s a different way of doing things. We don’t have to get caught up in a state of revolution. We don’t have to go along with anything. Instead, we watch events carefully to see how they affect our lives personally. That is the whole point of being The Rebel, standing in your own clarity in your own life.
Notable people with this Life Theme: Jennifer Aniston, Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln, Peter Gabriel, Jerry Springer
