Last time, we explored Gateway 33, known as the Gate of “Retreat”. Now, the Sun has moved on into Gateway 7, the Gateway of “Uniformity”. And as we move into the 7th Gateway, we’re moving out of the Quarter of the wheel that we call Civilization—where we’ve gone through all the Gates in the Throat Center, which were all engaged in communication and manifestation—and now we’ve gone into the Quarter of Duality. And the Quarter of Duality is concerned with finding where the balance is between the many binaries of our life on Earth (male and female, day and night, light and dark, etc.) and finding where we fit into it all as individuals.
So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at the Human Design Life Themes associated with Gateway 7:
The Personal Life Theme: The Sphinx
As the Sun enters Gate 7 we find ourselves in the Personal Life Theme of the Sphinx. And what do we know about the Sphinx? We know it as the mythological creature who gave Oedipus a riddle to solve in what is probably the most famous of all Greek Tragedies. And we know it as the iconic statue in Egypt, which has existed and persisted for unknown centuries through drastic changes in climate. We’re not quite sure how long she’s been there or why she’s there in the first place, but there she sits, silently pointing the way toward the Sirian Star System.
- Gate 7 – Uniformity – Finding common intent and promoting shared future interests.
- Gate 13 – The Listener – Pursuing common goals to expand all varieties of human experience.
- Gate 2 – Receptivity – A natural connection to unseen and sometimes inexplicable inner guidance.
- Gate 1 – Creativity – Self-expression aligns with the natural expansion of the Universe.
All four of the Gateways involved in this Life Theme are in the Self Center, and are what we might describe as directional Gates. So, just as the Sphinx of Giza points the way, people with the Life Theme of the Sphinx are here as a kind of beacon for others. They’re always able to point the way for people, to show them new scenarios, new possibilities, and open up the course for them.
We call the 7th Gateway “Uniformity” because it’s very much concerned with getting people on the same page together. It’s also in the Logic Circuitry, which means it’s always future oriented. Logic is always building toward something by following a logical progression. So, if you have this Life Theme, you might find yourself acting as a sort of shepherd; you’re pointing the way, but you’re also focused on keeping people unified, keeping them focused on moving forward together into the future, and finding uniformity in duality.
Notable people with this Life Theme: Alexander Fleming (inventor of the polio vaccine), Whitney Houston, Dustin Hoffman, Roger Federer.
The Fixed Life Theme: Interaction
As we move on into the 4/1 Profile, we still have the Sun in Gate 7, and the Earth in Gate 13. But now, we’re shifting into the 4th line, which opens up the Fixed Life Theme of “Interaction” and gives these Gates a slightly different flavor. Gate 7 with the fourth line is all about recognizing who’s with you and who’s not, who can see what you’re pointing towards and who cannot. The 13th Gate is known as “The Listener”, but when the fourth line is involved, I like to call it “The Whisperer”. In this case, the whisperer is someone who can pick up on things without anyone saying anything. It has a natural ability to communicate, or at least to recognize what it is that’s trying to be imparted in the world.
- Gate 7 – Uniformity – Finding common intent and promoting shared future interests.
- Gate 13 – The Listener – Pursuing common goals to expand all varieties of human experience.
- Gate 23 – Assimilation – Peeling away the non-essential to reveal what is substantial.
- Gate 43 – Breakthrough – Receiving new perceptions and reforming old ways and habits.
Now, the Unconscious Sun has moved on into Gateway 23 and the Unconscious Earth into Gateway 43. Those of you who are familiar with Human Design will know this channel, the 23-43, which is involved in expressing individuality, expressing the novel, expressing something different. It relies on speech and being able to say something clearly in an easily comprehensible way. And the Voice of Gateway 23 is I know. It’s not I think. It’s not I believe. It’s I know.
So, if you have this particular Life Theme, you can be very direct in putting things out there, but you have to work out very quickly who’s with you and who’s not, who gets what you’re pointing towards and who does not. You have a natural ability to draw people together and give them something to look forward to in the future, but you can be very quick to drop people if they aren’t on board with what you’re doing. So, there’s a bit of a balance to be struck here if you have this Life Theme.
The Interpersonal Life Theme: Charades
Now the Sun moves into the fifth and sixth lines of the 7th Gateway, and the 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, and 6/3 profiles. Here again the Earth is in Gate 13 “The Listener”. And by the time you get to the fifth and sixth lines with the listener, it takes on the role of putting people back in orbit in their lives. It has a knack of realigning people who’ve been knocked off track. And the 7th gate with the fifth and sixth lines has ingenious ways of being able to handle massive obstacles. They know how to get people together to move things forward. And here we find ourselves in the Interpersonal Life Theme of “Charades”.
Sometimes known as “Masks”, this Life Theme has an edge of brilliance to it. People with this Life Theme are often very clever, but they don’t necessarily always want to show everybody how they do their thing. They’re always innovative, but they know that people are not always going to understand what they’re saying or doing, so they have to play a game for them, they have to put on a mask, they have to hide behind whatever it is that wants to come through them. And what’s coming through is really what’s important here, because it’s always future oriented, it’s always aimed toward taking people into a deeper experience in life.
Notable people with this Life Theme: Steve Wozniak, Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas.
