Last time, we explored the Life Themes with the Sun in Gateway 49, the Gateway of “The Rebel”.  Now, we move on into Gateway 30, the Gateway known as “Desires”.  The literal Chinese translation of Gate 30 is “The Clinging Fire.” So, when we’re talking about desires in the context of Gate 30, we’re talking about things in our lives that we can’t get rid of, to the point that they can rule our lives.

What are the things that really draw and hold your attention? Is it pride, money, food, sex, vengeance or an infatuation of some sort? What are the things you cannot shake off until there is a recognition, an awareness, a clarification inside yourself? This is the clinging fire of desire. And it either consumes us, or we deal with it.  We jump through it and are cleansed in the fire. We come out the other side with new clarity. Suddenly, we just don’t have these desires anymore. We’re free.

With that in mind, let’s have a look at the Human Design Life Themes associated with Gateway 30:

The Personal Life Theme: Transference

With the Conscious Sun is in Gate 30, we find ourselves in the Personal Life Theme of “Transference”. The Earth is in the Gate 29, which has many names. It’s the Gateway of “Commitment”, it’s the Gateway of “Saying Yes”, or the “Automatic ‘Yes’”. It’s the recognition of those things that really draw your energy and instantly ignite that spark in you. Then we have the Unconscious Sun has gone into Gate 14, the Gateway of “Prosperity”, and the Unconscious Earth is in Gate 8, “The Agent”, the one who streamlines cooperation.

• Gate 30 – The Clinging Fire – The infinite and unshakeable quality of desire.

• Gate 29 – Commitment/The Automatic “Yes” – Making commitments from a place of grounded sincerity.

• Gate 14 – Prosperity – Learning to embody a genuine easy in situations involving property, wealth and affluence.

• Gate 8 – The Agent – Inspiring trust and providing outlets for those who create novel concepts and ideals.

This Life Theme of “Transference” is also sometimes called “Contagion”, which sounds ominous but really just describes the act of passing things along. It’s about passing the torch. It’s that feeling when you find something that really appeals to you, and you just can’t wait to share it. You want to put it out into other people’s lives and empower them the way you’ve been empowered.

So, people with this Life Theme are the torch bearers. They pass the flame and energize other people. But with this excitement and urgency comes a tendency to jump the gun and pass things along without necessarily having full clarity. And with the 30th Gateway being in the Emotion Center, people with this Life Theme have to feel really clear before making a move on things.

The Fixed Life Theme: Desires

The Sun moves on into the fourth line of Gate 30, and we enter into the Fixed Life Theme of “Desires”. It’s also known as the Fixed Life Theme of “Fates” in that just like there’s no escaping our fate, there’s no escaping certain desires that are drawing us in. And the 30th Gateway can be very attractive, literally. It pulls our attention to the point that we have to get involved.

• Gate 30 – The Clinging Fire – The infinite and unshakeable quality of desire.

• Gate 29 – Commitment/The Automatic “Yes” – Making commitments from a place of grounded sincerity.

• Gate 34 – Power – Power is only great when its display comes from inner balance.

• Gate 20 – The “Now” – The Gateway to knowing is simple: be present in the here and now.

The Unconscious Sun is now in Gate 34, and the Unconscious Earth is in Gate 20. And those of you who are familiar with Human Design will know that Gates 34 and 20 make up a Channel. I call it the Channel of being “busy, busy, busy”. So there’s major Manifesting Generator energy here just wants to run with whatever it is we’re being drawn into.

Manifesting Generators are great achievers. Achievement is not the issue for them. The issue is clarity. And while the 29th Gate is giving you that “Yes” that tells you to jump in and get involved, Manifesting Generators will often find that the “Yes” for them, is actually “Yes, maybe”. In order to get clarity, saying “Yes, maybe” is a great place to start. From there, you can do the due diligence and find out what’s involved in the longer term, before you dive headfirst into something new.

The Interpersonal Life Theme: Diligence

The Sun then moves into the fifth and sixth lines of Gate 30, and we find ourselves in the Interpersonal Life Theme of “Diligence”. So, whereas the Personal Life Theme of Transference was pointing out things that might be exciting and trying to pass them along to everyone, Gate 30 with the fifth and sixth line says, “there’s no question about it, this is something that has to be done.” It’s a very persuasive energy.

So, we still have this Manifesting Generator energy here with the 20-34 Channel, and one thing about Manifesting Generators is that they have the potential to get halfway into something and then drop it. They run out of steam. Something interests them for a while and then they lose the energy for it and they’re onto the next thing. So, they have the potential to leave a trail of disappointed people behind them. People who were counting on them to follow through with something and are left hanging.

 So, there’s always a sense of responsibility around Manifesting Generators. And if you know Manifesting Generators in your life, it’s important to realize—especially with this particular Life Theme—that they have a tendency to be really busy all the time, doing this, that and the other thing. And you have to be really clear about whether they’re only working on their own behalf, or if they’re also offering something of value to you as well?
