Last time, we explored Gateway 29, known as the Gate of “Commitment”.  Now, the Sun has moved on into Gateway 59, the Gateway of “Intimacy”. It’s also the Gateway of “Dispersion”, as in scattering seed, and it’s a part of the potential Channel, 59-6, that we see as the Channel of “Procreation”. It penetrates right into the emotional body, but can also bring about conception. So, we see a very powerful expression of life force energy from the Sacral Center going out to connect, to be intimate, to create life.

 

 

 

So, with that in mind, let’s have a look at the Human Design Life Themes associated with Gateway 59:

 

The Personal Life Theme: The Sleeping Phoenix

Now, as the Sun enters Gate 59, the Earth enters Gateway 55, which is the Gateway of “Abundance” and also the Gateway of “Spirit”. And of all the 64 Hexagrams in the I-Ching, the 55th is probably the least reasonable. Spirit has a bit of a rough time here on Earth, because it exists in a tension between the physical and astral planes—is the spirit connecting with the body, or does it exist elsewhere?

In other words, we might say the 59th Gate is the Sacral, and the 55th Gate is the Sacred. So, in all these Life Themes we see this balance between the sacral (the connection to life force in the physical world), and the sacred (the connection to spirit in other dimensions).

 

• Gate 59 – Intimacy – By dissolving barriers we establish union

 

• Gate 55 – Abundance – A spirited nature has the means to access abundance in all of life’s arenas.

 

• Gate 20 – The Now – Contemplating, watching, being present in the here and now.

 

• Gate 34 – Power – Great strength which comes from an inner balance.

 

Now, we have the Unconscious Sun in Gate 20 and the Unconscious Earth in Gate 34, which, if you’re familiar with Human Design, you’ll recognize as the Manifesting Generator Channel, or as I call it, the Channel of “Busy, busy, busy”. So, this life theme is automatically bringing about a Manifesting Generator presence, which means you might notice the buzz of things getting a little busier around you.

All of this brings us into the Personal Life Theme of “The Sleeping Phoenix”. My experience of people with this Life Theme is they’re ahead of their time. They’re looking forward into the world several years from now, asking “what’s the possibility? Where could it go? How can we make things better?” They have this extraordinary ability to see possibilities that other people can’t see. After all, what is a Phoenix? It’s a magical creature. And people with this Life Theme have a bit of a mystical, magical quality about them. But this visionary outlook has a serious drawback: how do you inform people in the present moment about what the future might hold?

Plus, with the 20-34 Manifesting Generator Channel energy running through this Life Theme, it’s important to recognize the particular way in which a Manifesting Generator operates in this world. Manifesting Generators are always active. They have this extraordinary life force, this well of sacral energy, that they can apply to anything. But the important question is, are you busy, busy, busy just for the sake of being busy? Just out of habit? Or are you busy because you are crystal clear that you’ve been called to get involved in whatever it is you’re doing? There are so many things you could get involved in, but if you’re not clear on them beforehand, you end up committing to things only to find out you don’t want to do them, causing all kinds of disappointment to yourself and everybody involved. So, Sleeping Phoenixes have to be really careful. Yes, they can see things that are worth chasing after. But can there be a bridge between the present and whatever it is they’re envisaging?

The Fixed Life Theme: Strategy

The Sun moves on into the 4th line of Gates 59 and 55, while the Unconscious Sun and Earth move into Gates 16 and 9. And this opens up the Fixed Life Theme of “Strategy”.

Gate 59 with the 4th line is really heart oriented. It wants to make friendships. It wants to interact with people and combine input in an atmosphere of togetherness. So particularly with Gate 59, the Gateway of Dispersion or Intimacy, there’s the potential to make really powerful connections with people.

 

• Gate 59 – Intimacy – By dissolving barriers we establish union

 

• Gate 55 – Abundance – A spirited nature has the means to access abundance in all of life’s arenas.

 

• Gate 16 – Selectivity – The ability to evaluate and identify endeavors that have relevance and promise.

 

• Gate 9 – Applied Details – An inherent attentiveness to everything, whether it brings satisfaction or not.

 

 Both Gates on the Unconscious side (16 and 9), are logical, and therefore future-oriented. Gate 16 looks at things in terms of their potential. It can immediately recognize whether something is going to go anywhere or not. And Gate 9 is accumulating details to see what’s needed in order to make things move forward.

So, when it comes to the Fixed Life Theme we call Strategy, the strategy we’re talking about is figuring out how to put the bits and pieces together in order to include people, access spirit, and bring it all forward into the future. And it’s often going to unfold in a very logical, methodical, strategic way, because of that Unconscious logic. So, people with this Life Theme can make very convincing arguments, they’re likeable, but they’re going to be very rigid in how they set things up.

 

The Interpersonal Life Theme: Spirit

Now we go into the 5th and 6th lines, and we find ourselves in the Interpersonal Life Theme of “Spirit”. People with this particular Life Theme are always balancing between the sacral and the sacred. There’s always a part of their life that’s unrealistic because they’re very involved in their spirit nature. But the other part of their life is very involved in the physical world. It’s involved in intimacy and connecting through sacral, sex energy.

If you have this Life Theme, you have an ability to guide people toward a different sense of reality. You’re brilliant at sorting out people’s more intimate issues (e.g. sexual issues, connection issues, how they get along in the world). And you also have the potential to raise people’s concept of what spirituality is all about. But again, there’s a balance to be struck: How to live a spirited life in a world that is tied into the material? And how to present the spirit to the world in a way that people can get it?
