In our understanding of the Human Design Life Chart, the Throat Center relates to the Thyroid and Parathyroid glands that control the making of thyroid hormones, which in turn regulate the body’s metabolism.
In the first few days after conception, the Throat Center is the energetic foundation for the fetus, and ultimately affects the formation and operation of all the other Centers, throughout the body’s lifetime.
The Throat Center is our place of articulation, expression, and manifestation. It is the most complex of all the Centers in the Life Chart and, particularly in these days, it handles intense demands. We use it to describe our world; to explain who we are, what we do, how we live, and, beyond that, it is the Center from which we create manifestations.
Please consider this article as a reminder of how best to appreciate your own Human Design so you can
There are at least 11 different voices in the Throat Center that we use to express ourselves; our great challenge in life is to identify the voices which most closely represent our truth and use them accordingly.
Having one of the voice Gates activated in a Design gives you access to that particular form of expression, but in order to use that voice on your terms, you need to wait your turn, until you get
your cue. For instance, if you have a Generator Chart, you are designed to Respond energetically from your lower belly, your gut, to know if something suits you or not, mostly your gut responds to outside stimuli, but often from inner recognitions of being called to interact.
Someone with a Projector Design, for example, is advised to wait for an invitation, whether that invitation comes from someone, or from an inner recognition of being called to join in. Using the voice indiscriminately, or attempting to manifest at any time and in any circumstances, ultimately leads to the thyroid glands being strained energetically, which in turn leads to the whole metabolism being affected.
One has to realize that the age-old adage of “putting your money where your mouth is,” or “walking your talk,” may not always be possible for many people in terms of their Design. Saying and doing are not the same thing. To engage in something just because you hear yourself talking about it might not be in your best interests at all.
Also, certain words are used in everyday language that can have a very adverse effect on our lives if we are not careful: words like, “should,” “could,” “would,” “must,” “might,” constrain us into actions which may have nothing to do with our own makeup and Design, but which all come in the form of obligation that is based on other peoples’ random opinions, beliefs, and traditions.
A defined Throat Center often expresses views and suggestions for the benefit of themselves and others; the undefined Throat Center is able to say things, often clarify things for their audience that their audience cannot express for themselves. Even with a defined Throat Center, your Type and Authority give you the means to know when to talk, and when to hold your peace to the greatest effect.
With an undefined Throat Center, it is essential to pay close attention to your Type and Authority to know when others can hear you and therefore can act on your words.
If you make a habit of talking whenever the mood takes you, you will often find that your audience is unable to hear you, and you end up talking to yourself. If you notice this going on in your life, slow down and pay attention to your inner guidance of when to talk, and in that way, you will make much closer connections with people and the world around you. This inner guidance may be very subtle at first, but over time, and the more you exercise it, you will find your ways into and out of conversations and discussions with ease, all the while managing to get your points and ideas across so they can be implemented.
With an “open” Throat Center, which is a Center with no Gates activated and colored there at all, recognize that you can train your voice to make a multitude of different sounds. You can expand your voice range in many ways, but be careful that you can strain it if you overwork it. Consider wearing scarves or other ways to cover your neck when you are called on to talk a lot. Please share with us in the comments if your Throat Center is defined, or undefined and what your experience has been.
